While it would seem that the H1N1 vaccine is safe (because the government says it is) the adjuvanted version has not been tested on pregnant women, and the unadjuvanted version has 50mg of mercury, which is about the equivalent of about 6 oz of canned tuna. Now, has anyone stopped to think that pregnant women are limited if not completely restricted from eating ANY fish during pregnancy, there is a very short list and tuna is not at the top of it. And who in the name of pete eats an entire can of tuna!?!? The dose recommended for pregnant women still far exceeds the limit for the average person, and they say that we could need 3 to 4 doses of this undjuvanted vaccine in order to be somewhat protected. It does not make you immune! It only lowers the chances of contracting the virus. So really, is it worth the risk for a maybe???? Furthermore, if adjuvanted vaccine is so safe why is it only approved in Canada now? It's never been approved for flu shots before.

Also people need to know that H1N1 is not a new virus. In fact, this strain closely resembles the H1N!1 that caused Spanish influenza in 1918. Same m.o., attacking young and seemingly healthy people and causing a cytokine storm, which is when the immune system goes into overdrive and works against the body. Also isn't it ironic that the U.S. was exhuming the bodies of people who had succumbed to the virus and extracting DNA trying to recreate the virus (which they did) in the later months of 2008 including December and beyond and then a similar (if not exact - they would never tell us) virus rears its head in Mexico of all places. Hmmmm, what a coincidence.

While precaution should be taken, people need to keep in mind that statistically between 2000 and 8000 Canadians die EVERY YEAR from the flu, they also need to keep in mind that the effect of the seasonal flu on pregnant women has never before been studied up until this high profile H1N1, so they don't know that this isn't the norm either. Demographics also have to be taken into account as they play an essential roll in health and susceptibility. Being a pregnant woman i have read so much about the virus that I could likely stand and give a detailed medical report on it, while I'm concerned for the safety of my unborn child and am taking my own precautions, I have not received the vaccine nor do I intend to and my gp is not recommending it. We know very little about it, and considering how limited a pregnant woman is medication wise for the sake of her babies safety having 150 - 200 mg of mercury pumped into her veins seems an enormous risk for a "you may not get it but there's no guarantee"... which is what I was told by a nurse in my area. That's not good enough for me.
